All of the images above show me setting up the media studio for our band performance the first photo shows what camera's we will be using for the shoot also some locations were they will be placed for certain shots for example medium close ups, meat shots and long shots, the image also shows the lighting we will use to add a extra effect on the shoot and will give the video a brighter and clear image.
The third image shows some of the equipment we will be using for the shoot in this case it is the drum kit we are moving it into position so it can be picked up on camera for the rest of the video we will continue to use props like this for the whole shoot including guitars, mic stands etc. We are also using the grey back sheet for the music video also this is seen in all 3 photos.

Here I have created two different album covers. The first album cover is made by using custom brushes in Photoshop cs5 to create a futuristic space effect. The second album cover features a sabre tooth tiger and the simple text running through the middle. The second album cover I have designed is very similar to the original album cover made by the actual band. I have included two different fonts, arial narrow and Arual. I got the first album cover text of a site called Dafont, I thought that the text went well with the design. I tried to also include the thirty seconds to mars logo on the top of the photo.
I think that both album covers stand out alot and would suit for the type of music and style 30 seconds to mars fit into. However, these are only rough ideas and I will design more covers and logos etc in order to find the best idea for our project.

Audience Research
In music videos like Closer To The Edge I expect to see a fast paced, lots of shots style. I like to see lots of interesting shots which aren't just focused in one specific location, this keeps me interested in the video and makes me watch it over and over again. I also like how the band include the public and not just themselves in the video. They could just create a music video which focuses on them but they choose not too, I believe this is one reason why they are so popular and headline at major festivals around the world. They include there fans a lot.
The style of clothing they wear is very 'in your face' this makes the audience focus on the band more and draws more interest to the music video, when making my music video I must take this into account. In these type of videos I expect to see a message, not only one but many, closer to the edge has many messages, including being yourself and meeting new people but also sticking by your friends and family. You could put the lyrics into your own meaning as well.
Audience Research
I interviewed Jack Young to try and find out what he likes to see in music videos which feature music with the style of 30 seconds to mars. I interviewed Jack because he fits well into the style of my target audience. Below is what he said.
In music videos such as Closer To The Edge by 30 seconds to mars, I expect to see a overall main message which shows the audience how they can change in a good way. I like to see fast paced shots due to the music being fast paced. Lots of shots is a must as this keeps the video interesting. I like to see a video which is not only shot in one place, the original video is shot all around the world for example, and from start to finish it keeps me interested. I also like how 30 seconds to mars include the public and there fans in there video to create a message that everyone is equal. I think this is a huge reason why they are so popular. They're videos from the band which are very different to others in the music industry, this is what makes the band unique and I think when you create your music video you should bare that in mind.
Audience Research
Here I have used the social network blogging site, tumblr to see what certain people expect to see in a video from a band such as 30 seconds to mars. The person that has given me this information is the type of person that listens to 30 seconds to mars.
This reply will help me add certain parts into the video which links into what the girl has said. This is obviously what she likes to see in the videos, i will continue my research and see if others like to see these sort of things aswell.

Permission Request
As you can see in the image above i have messaged the record label company to see if i could use the music for educational purposes only, in this case the record label was Virgin i asked if i could use the song 'Closer To The Edge' without the music been copyrighted and removed from the music video in the near future.
As you can see in the reply from the company we were allowed to use the music for educational purposes only and if the music was used for only good intentions this clearly shows evidence that i have contacted the record label company and they have replied and allowed me to use the music.
9 Screen Analysis

The music video featured in the image above is 'Dirty Little Secret' by All American Rejects the idea towards this video is different confesions of people which then appear on screen several times meaning people keep secrets from the rest of society, the video is very intresting however very repeative.
As you can see from the first image the music video immedietly opens up with confessions from a person this screen shot is one of many from the video, the video then cuts to the band playing the song were there is alot of close ups, medium shots and long shots of the band playing and singing. The video then contiues through showing more cards which people are holding and confessing to thier 'dirty little secrets' there is a very good narraitive to this songs because as the lyrics people can ammeidietly discover why the people are holding the cards and the audience can tell how it all links together, in many of the long shots the viewer can see on the screen behind the band more confessions and cards all lined up ebhind them this is another good way putting out the narraitive to the viewer, at the end to the music video the clips begin to speed up as the msuic video slows down which is unusal but works, the video cuts from the nad to people with cards for the rest of the song untill finally it ends.
9 Screen Analysis.
Above is 9 frames I have taken from the video 'All I Want' by A day to remember. I choose to analyze this music video because I believe it is a very clever video which links lyrics and actions to the actual music. The first shot I have chosen is at the start of the video, it shows the whole band in the shot which shows the audience who is performing the song. The shot below shows the band name, a day to remember. Not only has the video got a day to remember in it but it also shows other bands in the video as well who got involved in the filming of the video. The lyrics actually pop up on the screen as they are played which means the video relates to the music playing. Meat shots of the band are used showing them actually playing instruments in time with the music, this is a common convention in the world of music videos.
Not only have other bands been involved in the video but regular people have too, this shows that the band supports its fans and wants to promote themselves to everyone around the world.
Finally the music video is fast paced. This links really well with the style of music as it is really fast itself. The editing has been thought about well so that the frames change quickly on the beat of the music.
Digipack Analysis
The front of the album features one of the most iconic symbols in not only music, but the world. Lots of people get this tattooed or drawn onto buildings etc. It symbols different pacts. The colours are dark but the triangle stands out giving the customer something that catches there eye.
The cd is just simple black so this draws more attention to the front of the case. The album design is simple and features just the one picture withno text. This is because Pink Floyd are such a popular bad that they don't need a title or album name on the front. The customer will pick the album up if they do not know the band and check the back which features all the details.
Digipack Analysis
Out of the all the actual digipacks I have analysed I have not found any which contain major deviations from a set colour scheme. This helps the digipack to seem more like one thing rather than a collection of unrelated article about the album.this can be seen on the inside cover of Rise Against's "Appeal To Reason".
Most albums also contain a lyric booklet which usually includes production credits in addition to the lyrics and information about the band. Other pieces of essential information include the barcode and copyright details; these are typically in small font at the bottom or in a corner somewhere since they do not really add anything to the digipack in an artistic sense. It is not uncommon for stickers to be placed on the front of albums containing reviews, ratings or mentioning one of the singles the album contains, these serve as a promotion offering yet another reason for a member of the audience to purchase the text.

Digipack Analysis
Here is the digipak for the album 'Brand new eyes' by Paramore. The digipak shows the back of the album with the list of tracks on it and the front which features a butterfly and the band title with album name. The disc also has a butterfly on it but this time in a different colour. The font is a script style which gives of an old style impression. By looking at the front of the album we get the impression that the tracks will be quite soft and move away from the heavy side of music just by looking at the colourful butterfly.
The picture on the album cover doesn't really link well with the band name or how they are. However, looking deep into it the band are carrying on through good and bad times this could link with a butterfly constantly flying. The target audience is probably young people around the age of 17. I think this because the choice of images used on the album cover.
Album Cover Analysis
um cover for 'Goblin' - Tyler The Creator. The main images is Tyler the Creator, he is the artist who performs all the tracks on the album hence why all the attention on the cover is focused on him. The album title, Goblin, is highlighted in pink and stands out from the other parts of the album cover. The reverse cross (anti christ) shows the beliefs that Tyler has in life. Due to the use of swear words and other inappropriate language on the album, the album is labelled with a parental advisory stamp. This tells the younger generation that its an album not aimed at them.
The text is bold and catches the eye, it stands out from the rest of the album cover, this draws the customer in but it also links into Tylers crew logo..
Tyler has not only included his brand style in the album cover but he has also included himself, this shows the customer who is performing on the album. There is no real relationship between the text and the images used however the colour of them work together quite well. The icons, such as the cross on Tylers head represent the way he thinks, this is also showed throughout the tracks by the lyrics he raps.
The cross and Tyler are the only signifiers exclusive to the band/genre. Tyler is black and raps, this is a common convention in rap. Its very often that the rapper is African American. This all links into the genre, american rap. The album cover doesn't really show who the target audience is however due to the parental advisory label its not advised for younger people.
Album Cover Analysis
This is the album cover for the Rise Against, Endgame. The album shows that the band are situated in America. The album cover gives of the idea of patriotism, the idea around the album is peoples rights in America. They have track named 'make it stop' and 'help is on its way' which both explain how people deserve a chance and rights. The album supports the American people.
The album cover has an olden day style feel to it, this could mean that the band think that the old days where better in some ways, it also shows a picture of a boy and a house. The idea behind this is that the boy is finding his way home. The end song on the album is actually the title of the album 'endgame'.
Overall the album cover doesn't really show of much other than the fact that the band supports there country and stands by its rights etc.
Album Cover Analysis
This is the album cover for Bring me the horizons album 'there is a hell believe i've seen it there is a heaven lets keep it a secret'. I have chosen to Analise this album cover because it shows clearly two different sides of the album. The album cover is suppose to resemble the hard and good times in life by showing the black and white and the keys and sword. The keyhole in the center of the figure is suppose to show that people can get into other peoples hearts.
I think that the album cover is very clever especially after listening to the album quite alot. Some of the songs are deep meaningfull songs and quite heavy whilst others are soft and feature acoustic guitars etc. The white resembles purity and the black resembles the hard times people go through. The whole meaning shows that people can go through hard times but will get out of it in time.

Album Cover Analysis
From listening to the songs from the album there is no true meaning of any of the songs and there are no messages put across however, the songs from the album show a wide range of Drum and Bass and different types of singing techniques
The album cover stands out to many people because of it use of bright colours also its very easy to locate the bands name and the album name because its right in the middle, people will immediately know the band if they have heard them before and like there type of music.
Album Cover Analysis
This is the album cover for Paramore and is named 'Riot' This album shows how school life affects peoples life's and tells people everything about school life. All the songs in the album all relate to school life. The album cover as a whole stands out because the writing is all scruffy and resembles doodling like people would when there are bored however the album is completely covered in text, all of the words on the cover say 'Riot' and in the top left there is a big piece of text which is orange, this is good because it stands out to the eye and drags peoples attention to it. Also the scruffy text shows people the genre of music because it looks like it has been rushed and not perfected also the word 'Riot' is used a lot witch truly means destructing the peace inferring its more of a puck rock band.
The album however could be improved on a whole because of the amount of text its very hard to see who the album is by, and really what it is truly about its only if you have heard the songs on the album to know what it is about.
The album however could be improved on a whole because of the amount of text its very hard to see who the album is by, and really what it is truly about its only if you have heard the songs on the album to know what it is about.
Magazine Cover Analysis.
As you can see the magazine cover i have selected is Rise AGainst from the cover of Kerrang magazine this cover works very well of the intended audience first of all you can clearly see that the name of the band is titled right in the middle and a picture of the lead singer is behind it covering the full page, this is clever because it lets Rise Against fans know exactly which band this is. However, this could be slightly improved because people that have listened to this bands music but dont really know what the band look like may not know the singers face and may not reconise the band meaning the company may lose sales.
The gain effect of the magazine is a very good effect because it relates to the music genre which is runk rock, its almost saying that this music type is very rough and heavy. The use of placing other bands around the page is also a very good idea from the magazine company, because this not only advertises other bands but it also lets people know what sort of music Rise Against play from the other bands.
Magazine Cover Analysis.
I have chosen to analyze a Foo Fighters album advert out of the magazine 'Q'. The layout of the advertisement is simple, text on the top, a photo in the centre and more text below. The colours are eyecatching and would make the reader want to look at the page to see what the advert is about. The text is very bold and also stands out, this specifically shows the audience what the advert is about. The colours that have been used really mix well with each other, the advert kind of looks 3D in a way due to the photo in the middle. The bold white text stands out and then the smaller light blue text backs it up.
The text and images work together well. The text shows the reader exactly what he is looking at whilst the images shows the reader the actual band and not just some random photograph. The advert is clever because of the way it has been designed, the image features the guitarist 'Pat Smear' he has came from Nivarna and is now with Foo Fighters, the image shows that the band are all now together. There is no real icons which focus on the band genre, however the colours do link well with the fact that the foo fighters are quite heavy and lights would play a large part in one of there gigs.
The advert tells the reader who the producer is and who mixed the album, this is giving them credit. The advert also shows links to important websites which link to the band. Another small thing the advert has Is a link to the play.com site. Play have obviously wanted to advertise on the advert so that people go onto the site and buy the record of play.com. The advert doesn't link with the target audience however I would expect Nivarna style older and young teenagers to be interested in the band. This is Foo Fighters 7th Studio album and this would obviously mean lots of people like them
Shot Count
I have studied Bring Me The Horizon - The Sadness Will Never End
Whilst watching the video I counted around 420 shots. The music video is very fast paced, so fast infact that there is a different shot every 1-2 second(s). The music features a fast hectic performance whilst also having a narrative around it. The video features the whole band and also Sam Carter, the lead singer from another popular band, The Architects.
The lighting in the video is also very hectic and gives the audience the idea of a fast paced chase style situation. Along with the instruments being shown alot, the lead singer, Oli Sykes is often focused on alot too. The camera constantly zooms into him showing his emotions as he is performing the song. Lots of different shots are used, close ups, mid shots and long shots, these change every second due to the video being so fast paced. The editing is clever because it switches between the narrative story and the performance quite cleverly. The performance is shown everytime there is a breakdown or a heavy beat, the narrative is shown when the vocals are speaking about something that the boy in the story could be doing. For example if the lead singer spoke about a tree, then a tree would be on the screen.
Analysis Of Music Video 3
Pendulum 'The Island Part 1' - this is a very good example of a music video for a movie the video repeatedly plays clips from the movie with the song playing over it, there is alot of editing done to the video because of the high paced music so the angles and shots are changing quite rapidly along with the song, not only does the music video advertise the song but also it advertises the movie so people will hear the track and then go and see the movie people see things it has to offer for ecample they will see the famous actor in it meaning once again they would want to see the film.
Analysis Of Music Video 2
All American Rejects 'Gives You Hell' - This music video is a perfect example of a story behind it and the music video continues a story is been told the idea of the video is a wealthy person and a low life living next to each other and shows how different their lifstyles lifestyles and the idea of 'Giving Them Hell' is introduced this is very good for the audience watching the video because they can follow the story as they are listening to the lyrics.
Alot of close ups to the two different people are used alot and also long shots to show the whole lifestyle of each individual giving the audience a clear view on what is happening.

Analysis Of Music Video 1
A Day To Reemember 'All i Want' - This is a unique video it is filmed in a set room and is acted like a live perfomance, the lyrics are also very intresting in this video this is because they pop up on screen as the video is playing it is as if the lyrics have been sketched into the video, the video also includes other bands within the same genre of music witch is puck/rock, this is very good because it is also giving other bands a good name and not just A Day To Remember.
The sound in the music video is also very good it is very loud so it suits the genre for the music also the places were the video is shot are also suited tot he specfic genre for example the small room with the notes on the back, a warehoyuse and a van.

Personal Skills Audit
Digital Technology
Skills Acquired - I have acquired certain skills when using Final Cut, iMovie, Photoshop elements, LiveType and GarageBand. Also i have many pieces of equipment such as cameras and mac/mac books.
How did these skills contribute - Livetype: I used this to make interesting titles in the video iMovie: Used for effects for the video such as black and white images, blurring and fading. Also i used garage band this was mainly used for the music in my video to make it more interesting.
How would you develop these skills in A2 - To develop these skills i must use more effects I will use more of the final cut programme.
Post Production

Skills acquired - I have acauired many skills when researching and planning for my media product some of these include analysis of an opening sequence, audience research, industry research, picth, anematic storyboard and a 9 screen analysis these are just some example of the skills i have acquired.
How did these skills contribute - These certian skills helped me reach my deadlines for my product and made sure i met every peice of work for specfic times also all of the planning made my final product of a high standard.
How would i deveolp these skills at A2- To develop my skills i must plan even more to make the porduct even better also when filming this year i should make sure to not hit the final deadline for filming so if i film before then i can make sure that i can correct any errors and anyt bits that are needed.
Using Conventions Of Real Media Texts
Conventions Studied- Some of the films i studied to gain some ideas were Seven and LA Confiedental.
Ideas took from these conventions - There were sertian things that i had picked up from these conventions that related to my final product these were things such as shadows, hiding the killers identity, guns and the costume style.
How will i change this in A2- I would change this by challenging the whole conventions coming up with my own ideas for my music video.
Creativity
Some of my idead were imaginative however we did challenge the conevtion
What would mostly change about my creativity would be the idead i would try make it original as possible however still manage to fit it in the the genre of music.
